We are passionate about having a place where all people have access to technology, training and employment opportunities. We envision people being able to obtain self-sufficiency through the acquisition of skills that are marketable in the real world.
As technology and times have evolved, the green economy sector and other impacted sectors are coming to the forefront. This includes construction, electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and various other sectors.
The vast majority of green skills are being
used in jobs that aren’t traditionally thought of as
green — such as fleet managers, data scientists or
health workers.

About Us
Community Technology Initiative (CTI) is a 501©3 that was formed over twenty years ago. Its mission is to provide technology, training and access to those traditionally underserved. During its time that has manifested in various forms. It has included the creation and implementation of a facility in New York. It began with training residents on the use of technology and the use of computers. Those people were then placed in jobs that used those skills.
In addition, thousands of individuals have been placed in jobs in a variety of sectors. Placement in these jobs have allowed over 27 people to purchase homes in the past five years.
Over time that training evolved to include working with developers and contractors to place individuals onto construction sites with well-paying jobs.
The latest adventure involves the creation of a Green Economy Lab. The goal of this facility is to provide access to green economy sector and the jobs it will provide.

Green Economy Lab
The Green Economy Lab in Stockton, California is intended to serve as an incubator for climate tech demonstration projects, job training, and creation. - that will bring together the private sector and community-based organizations in the San Joaquin Valley region. We believe that the experiences of Stockon - and communities like it - can and should directly shape the programmatic and policy decisions at the intersection of climate innovation and workforce / economic development. But we believe more can be done; Stockton is an important test bed to show what’s possible when communities lead. In partnership with the Housing Authority of San Joaquin County, one of the first projects of the green economy lab is an EV car share program that will directly benefit, train and employ public housing residents. The first car share projects have launched at Conway Homes. By the end of 2024, all current public housing complexes will have an EV car share program.
This dream became reality in early 2024. The Green Economy Lab opened for training and demonstration projects.
These partnerships have provided proof of what is possible. The Green Economy Lab has become a training ground for residents on these new technologies which will expand into the next decade.
Our History
CTI began with a focus on teacher training. It was the beginning of technology in the classroom. Over one thousand teachers throughout New York State were trained on how to integrate technology in the classroom. That evolved into helping teachers implement one on one computing in the classrooms. This was all pre-Covid and those school districts CTI trained were well positioned to handle the remote learning environments.
Simultaneously, CTI began working with low income individuals who were receiving TANF funds. They were provided technology, case management and supportive services. This partnership helped individuals work toward self-sufficiency.
This evolved into provided complete wrap around services to low income individuals. This included; case management, mental health services, job training, job placement and follow up services.
This provided a conduit to work with CTI’s sister company Renaissance to place individuals in well-paying jobs and achieving self-sufficiency. In the past five years 27 individuals have been able to purchase homes.
